Our country still hates women.
Now, I have an anxiety disorder. For those closest to me, this isn’t exactly news. Why do I have an anxiety disorder? I could say that it runs in my family. Mental health conditions certainly do, although as far as I know, I’m the first with anxiety.
I could say that growing up as an adult child of an alcoholic resulted in anxiety and other issues, and that is 100% true. But, it’s not the whole story.
Yes, I grew up in a household that ignored who I was as a person, that taught me that I had to be who my mother wanted me to be. But, I also live in a society that tells me who I need to be everyday, too, even though that’s not who I am. Because our country still hates women, even now, in 2022.
The Overturning of Roe v Wade
On June 24 this year Roe v Wade was overturned. I’ve attended prayer sessions for the unborn and even attended the March for Life in DC. But, my feelings on the matter have always been rather complicated.
I had thought that overturning Roe v Wade would just make abortions less safe–not making them go away. But, I let other people who knew less than me convince me that I was wrong. That was my mistake.
The thing is that, overturning Roe v Wade was not about unborn lives–at least not for the politicians that ensured its overturning. It was about controlling women. And, if you need more proof of that, let’s take a look at the consequences.
The video above is not from the US. But, we are heading in the same path. Overturning Roe v Wade will lead to deaths and undue suffering of women.
Anti-Abortion Laws Without Exception
Many states are now attempting to implement anti-abortion laws with no exceptions for rape or incest. They are also making it more difficult for women to get abortions when not doing so threatens their life. Technically, these exceptions are written in, but the burden is on the doctor to prove that the exception exists, and many doctors are too afraid to give this life-saving treatment for fear they will be arrested or lose their licenses. As a result, women’s lives are being put in danger. This is what happened in the first video.
But, it’s not just in other countries anymore.
And, it’s not just about abortion.
Before I got my car, I couldn’t walk down the street without being accosted by men or even being assaulted.
If I had a casual conversation with a man, at best, he would ask what my ‘husband’ thought about the topic, because my opinion, as a woman, was not enough. At worse, he would ask why my husband or boyfriend allowed me to be out alone at night.
The first time I felt represented in a movie was when I saw Captain Marvel. All of the women in movies are the love interest for the hero. But, her story wasn’t about romance. Finally, a woman who stood on her own two feet. And, so many people hate her because the movie is saying men are garbage–except it’s not. Perhaps they are projecting their own feelings onto the movie?
Either way, I don’t know how to let people in anymore, because everyone wants me to be someone I’m not, and I absolutely refuse. No more!
I Am Not an Object
I left my job last year because I was tired of just being an object or a construct. I am a human being, and so is every other woman, man, and child in this country, and I am f***ing sick of these arrogant a**holes in our government and in MAGA trying to tell us who is a person and who is not. They still hate women, and they show us everyday.
We need to do better, America. We need to be better. Vote them out, and keep voting them out until things change.
