Marina The Unicorn Collector: The Case of the Stolen Christmas Chocolate
Marina The Unicorn Collector: The Case of the Stolen Christmas Chocolate is written by Marina Violet and illustrated by Nadine Ballerme.
It was…cringey. First, there isn’t much of a hook or a mystery to really care about. It’s written like a boring medical dictation, although I think the author was going for a hardboiled mystery and just failing pretty miserably. There are also some tense issue that made it hard to follow. This one gets 1/5 stars from me since I was only able to get about halfway through it before giving up.
THE WINTER APPLES: ADVENTURE BOOK FOR KIDS.
THE WINTER APPLES: ADVENTURE BOOK FOR KIDS.A STORY ABOUT ANIMALS IN THE WINTER FOREST is written by Mariya Yelizarova. Overall, this was a really cute story, but I had a couple of issues with it. First, there were a lot of minor punctuation errors (comma splices). These did not detract from the story but are just worth pointing out.
Second, there were some issues with the way the paragraphs were divided, making it difficult to read. I know this is likely due to trying to fit the words around the pictures, but it made it difficult to figure out who was speaking.
Lastly, I’m a little bothered by the ending. While I think it’s great for humans and animals to be friends, some small children could think that it is okay to feed deer in the wild. That is unfortunately not the case. This is mitigated by the reality that a deer would run away rather than accept food from a child’s hand. This book gets 3.5/5 stars from me.
Bentley Hippo ABC Empower Me: Be Anything You Want To Be
Bentley Hippo ABC Empower Me: Be Anything You Want To Be is written by Argyro Graphy. This book okay. There were some job descriptions that I didn’t agree with–like a doctor telling the child what is wrong with them or saying someone in a wheelchair is special (the correct terminology is that they have special needs). The x-ray entry for x is also entirely wrong. An x-ray doesn’t tell the technician what you ate. It shows pictures of bones. This one gets 2/5 from me.
