Book Reviews: Edition 32 focuses on: Daddy Is Cool Like That and The Magic of the Forest: A Story of Friendship and Adventure.
Daddy Is Cool Like That
Daddy Is Cool Like That is written by Mary McMahon and Jennifer Bucciero Boyles.
I found this story to be rather amateurishly written. What I mean by that is there are signs of novice writers prevalent in this book. There are significant tense errors, not to mention the overuse of the tag ‘shouted’ to try to avoid using the word said. If you want to avoid using said, then an action tag is a much better option. Synonyms of said and ask should be extremely rare.
Now, I do think this story is wonderfully developed and a great educational resource. It gets 4 out of 5 stars from me.
The Magic of the Forest: A Story of Friendship and Adventure
The Magic of the Forest: A Story of Friendship and Adventure is written by Carlos Phillips.
I didn’t read the entire story, so just a quick disclaimer. What I did read felt more like a summary than a full story. I think there were just too many characters for the author to keep track of, so the story ended up summarizing rather than putting the reader in the moment, and there were a lot of talking heads.
This book gets 2/5 stars from me.
